Welcome! We're glad you're here.
Thanks for your interest in our Bring It to The Table event at the Montclair Art Museum. Here's a little information about what the event entails and what we'll need from our volunteers:
This event is based on the documentary film Bring It To The Table, in which Julie Winokur, the filmmaker, travels the country with a small table and invites people from all walks of life to sit down and share their beliefs on everything from economic inequality to immigration, from gay marriage to gun control. All volunteers will receive a copy or link to the film so they are versed in the tone and spirit of the project.
As part of MAM's Free First Thursday Nights, on April 5 from 5-9PM, we will set up 10 tables, similar to the tables in our film, where people will be able to discuss pressing issues in a safe environment. We will have fixed topics at each table and a set of prompts to get the conversations started.
Julie will host a brief training before this event so volunteers can get the conversations started and facilitate the tables as more people engage. The training will introduce volunteers to some ground rules to make sure the conversations remain civil and productive.
Our team will send a doodle poll to volunteers to make sure date and time for the training are convenient. It will most likely take place earlier in the same week of the event.
